NEWBERG, Ore. - All baseball-playing youth from grades 3-12 who would like to stay sharp and improve their batting skills during the Christmas holidays are invited to George Fox University’s Bruin Baseball Hitting Skills Camp that is set for Friday-Sunday, Dec. 21-23, 2012, from 12:00-3:00 p.m. inside the school’s Wheeler Sports Center.

Registration is now open for the camp, which is for all players who want to improve their offensive skills.  Instructors will break down the mechanics of the swing and improve each aspect through progressive, organized drills.  Daily video analysis is used, along with information on the mental side of hitting.

The camp will be led by George Fox head coach Marty Hunter and his Bruin coaching staff, along with college coaches such as Pat Bailey, former George Fox head coach and current assistant at Oregon State University, and Rob Vance, head coach at Concordia University-Portland.  Several high school coaches from the area will also assist.

Hunter is in his sixth season as the head coach and 11th season overall at George Fox.   During that time, the Bruins have won five Northwest Conference championships, played in six regional tournaments, won the NCAA Division III World Series in 2004, and have led the nation in fielding average three times, setting a D-III record that still stands with a .979 percentage in 2005.   The Bruins are 133-74 in his five seasons as head coach.  He has over 26 years of coaching experience at all levels, from youth leagues to professional baseball.

The cost of the camp, which is limited to 100 players, is $135 for 10 1/2 hours of instruction, and includes a T-shirt and camp insurance.  The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 17, and a registration form should be returned along with a check made out to “GFU Bruin Baseball” to Marty Hunter, 1894 N.
