George Fox to Host Women’s Basketball Youth Clinic for Girls on October 13-14
NEWBERG, Ore. – Young ladies from the 4th through the 12th grades who would like to improve their basketball skills as the 2012-13 basketball season approaches are invited to a two-day clinic at George Fox University’s Wheeler Sports Center/Miller Gym on Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 13-14, from 10:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. each day.
The clinic is under the direction of George Fox women’s basketball coach Michael Meek, who in two seasons has led the Bruins to a 57-7 record, the NCAA Division III national championship game in 2012, and was named the 2012 Northwest Conference Coach of the Year and D3hoops.com National Coach of the Year. Current Bruin basketball players will assist in the clinic.
The purpose of each camp is to use the education in the fundamentals and mental approach to the game of basketball as a tool to teach life skills, respect for others, self-confidence, goal-setting, and the leadership skills necessary to achieve excellence both on and off the court. Focus of the teaching will include dribbling, passing, scoring off the drive and the pass, getting open, defensive skills, moving without the ball, fundamentals of goal setting, mental toughness, court awareness, teamwork, and coachability. Games will be played for application of the skills that are learned.
The cost of the clinic is $65 for one day or $120 for both sessions, and includes a T-shirt and 11 hours of instruction and fun. There is a one-hour break each day from 1:00-2:00 p.m. for lunch, with each participant expected to provide her own meal. Players may also register at the door on the first day of the camp.
