Behind the Scenes in Bruin Athletics: Meet Patty Findley

If you've ever wandered into Wheeler or the Duke Athletic Center, chances are you ran into our very own Patty Findley. A face recognized around campus, some know little about the administrative assistant that pours her time and energy into the campus and lives at George Fox. We took some time to sit down with her and ask a couple of questions as she winds down in the summer.

Here's an inside look into Patty Findley.

How long have you been working for George Fox?

Since October 1, 1984 (I'm not interested in hearing how many years that was before you were born).

What's your favorite thing to do during the summer?

Grandparenting tops the list of course, but I also enjoy working in my yard, reading, seeing friends and family that I don't have time for during the school year, and organizing my life. I like to go back to school in August with a clean slate.

Is there something most people wouldn't know about you and your role?

Probably not. Given where I sit in both offices and the fact that I'm an open book, I doubt that I've managed to hide anything.

What's your favorite part about George Fox?

The students that God sends us year after year and the great people I get to work with. It's always family first. I've suffered some pretty heartbreaking things in my personal life over my years here but I have felt loved and supported by not only my departments but by the George Fox community as a whole. God knew exactly what he was doing when he put me here.

Do you have a favorite memory at George Fox?

Gosh, there have been so many... It was probably when I got Employee of the Year and Ed Stevens arranged to have Jack (my late husband) and my three best friends (Linda Stevens, Linda Schlachter and Linda Johnson) all be there for me. We called ourselves Patty & the Lindells. I was just so surprised at the whole thing. That was pretty special. And then of course all of our championships, very cool.

What's the most random question you've ever been asked?

Oh, there have been quite a few over the years. The ones that stick out the most are: If the port-a-potties at the baseball field could be used by the general public.  My answer: Only in an emergency! The fan favorite: You're still here? And Can I have your job when you leave?

Tell us a little bit about your dog?

I thought you'd never ask! He's a wire-haired Doxy and is so cute and smart!  His name is Chizz and that comes from the musical Wicked. Their school was dear old Chizz and I said if I ever get a dog, I'm going to name him Chizz, so I did. I absolutely hate that I'm a "Dog Mom" now but it can't be helped. It is what it is. I love him.

What are you looking forward to in the new school year?

The freshmen of course. I can't wait to get my hands on them. I love academia, new beginnings, anything's possible!
