* Recent Games (3-3): Bruins Split Six Games to Open Season

Feb. 12 - George Fox 7, at Hawai’i-Hilo 6

The Bruins took the season opener when Dan Winterstein singled in Bo Thunell to break a 6-6 tie in the top of the 8th inning and Chad Jones pitched two innings of shutout relief for the save. Thunell was 3-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Todd Siler was 3-5 with three RBIs.

Feb. 13 - at Hawai’i-Hilo 6-5, George Fox 3-6

In the opener, Brian Davis took the loss despite allowing only one earned run in 3.2 innings, but three Bruin hurlers walked nine in the game.  Winterstein had two of the Bruins’ six hits in the game.  In the nightcap, the Bruins broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the top of the 6th, then turned the lead over to the bullpen to preserve the win.  Matt Wyckoff came on with the tying run at second in the last of the 6th and got two ground outs.  Chad Jones gave up a double and a walk in the last of the 7th but got the final out on a grounder for his second save of the season.  Wyckoff and Thunell each went 3-4, Wyckoff scoring twice and Thunell knocking in two.

Feb. 14 - at Hawai’i-Hilo 11, George Fox 7

Hilo banged out 14 hits and scored in five consecutive innings, from the 2nd through the 6th, to salvage the series split.  George Fox collected 10 hits on the day, including the Bruins’ first home run of the season, a solo shot by Pat Bailey.

Feb. 20 - Concordia-Portland 13, at George Fox 8

Pounding out five home runs, including two to go along with six RBIs by Tommy Whalen, the Cavaliers spoiled the Bruins’ home opener.  Thunell, Winterstein, and Perry Knudson each had two hits for the Bruins, including Winterstein’s first home run of the season.  Reliever Travis Schroeder, though touched for five runs in 5.1 innings, struck out nine, including four in a row at one point.

Feb. 21 - at George Fox 16, Concordia-Portland 9

For the second day in a row, the Bruins spotted the Cavaliers a big early lead, falling behind 6-1 after three innings, but this time the bats awoke in time to come back for the victory.  A four-spot in the 3rd, capped by a Pat Bailey three-run homer, cut the Bruins’ deficit to 6-5, and another four-run inning in the 5th gave the Bruins the lead for good.  Seth Anderson led a 19-hit Bruin assault with a 4-5 game and two RBIs, while Wyckoff and Knudson each went 3-5, Wyckoff scoring three and driving in two.

* Game at Division I Portland Postponed to March 17

Due to wet weather, the Bruins’ game at the NCAA Division I University of Portland on Feb. 24 was postponed.  The game will be made up on Tuesday, March 17, at 3:00 p.m. in Portland.  The Bruins defeated the Pilots 3-2 on Feb. 24 last season when Dan Winterstein threw out the potential tying run at the plate in the 9th inning.
