BSB: Hot-Hitting Trask Captures BAA Award, HM for NWC Offensive Player of the Week
NEWBERG, Ore. - A .500 batting average and a solid 1.200 slugging percentage in a three-game series against the University of Puget Sound has earned Brent Trask the Bruin Athletic Association Men’s Athlete of the Week for Apr. 5-11, and honorable mention for Northwest Conference Baseball Offensive / Fielding Student-Athlete of the Week.
Trask was instrumental in the Bruins’ 6-5 series-opening win over the visiting Loggers on Saturday, slugging a solo home run in the 2nd and a two-run shot in the 4th to give the Bruins an early 3-0 lead. He also singled in the 5th and finished with a 3-for-4 game. In a 10-6 second-game loss on Saturday, he was was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. In a 5-4 win on Sunday, he was again 1-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch and a crucial sacrifice bunt in the Bruins’ game-winning rally in the bottom of the 9th. For the week, he hit .500 (5-10) with a double, two home runs, 12 total bases, four runs scored and three RBIs.
A senior catcher from Albany, Ore., who was a Second All-Conference selection last year, Trask currently leads the Bruins in home runs (6) and slugging pct. (.733) and is second in batting average (.400), RBIs (27), and on base pct. (.471). In the latest conference stats (not counting Wednesday’s game at Corban), he ranked 4th in slugging (.726), 8th in home runs (6), and 9th in batting (.397). Defensively, he is 4th in the league in runners caught stealing (7).
