A Winning Tradition
NEWBERG, Ore. --- After a historic 2017 season in which the Bruins outscored their opponents 187-47 on their home turf and cracked the NCAA Div. III Top-25 for the first time in program history, the 2018 schedule for George Fox football features four exciting home contests against some of the nation's top football teams. The Bruins hold a 7-3 record at Stoffer Family Stadium in Newberg over the past two years.
After earning the highest number of All-NWC honors in the conference last year, the Bruins return all-conference players Charles Riga, Caleb Dalzell, Daniel Campos, Rudy Hughes, Wesley Riddell and Anthony Garcia. Riga and Dalzell were named to the D3Football.Com All-America Team – a first for the program. Riga was also named the Co-Defensive Player of the Year for the Northwest Conference.
This year's schedule features the Bruins' fourth consecutive meeting with the University of Redlands to open the season, Sept. 1 on the road. George Fox's only non-conference game at home will take place the following Saturday when Howard Payne University travels to Newberg. The Bruins will play one more game on the road against Pomona-Pitzer to conclude non-conference play.
George Fox will celebrate Homecoming on Oct. 6, taking on Whitworth in its first conference game at home. The Bruins' next home date will be Family Weekend, when one of the most anticipated matchups of the season unfolds with Linfield College's arrival on Oct. 20. George Fox's final home contest is against the University of Puget Sound on Nov. 10.
"We appreciate the game support we receive from the Newberg community, our alumni network, and our students," head coach Chris Casey said. "Our game-day atmosphere is outstanding, and a big reason for this is the enthusiasm and energy from our fans. Something our players often mention is that they feel a real connection with our fans."
Season tickets for 2018 cost $80 per seat ($20/game), which are located in the covered grandstands. Season ticket holders were treated to a spectacular showing from the Bruins last year, as the team won five home contests to make their case as a formidable opponent within the notoriously grueling Northwest Conference.
The Bruins finished with a 5-2 conference record. On the national level, the team made its mark after toppling two nationally ranked teams and earning a spot in the NCAA top-25 themselves.
In 2018, the Bruins look to make even greater strides to build upon last season's success. "Our players are working hard this offseason to continue to improve teamwork, speed and strength conditioning, and leadership as we strive to be an excellent football program," Casey said.
Season ticket renewals will begin March 1. General admission tickets located in the uncovered bleachers will be available to purchase on a per-game basis in early July.
