July 7, 2010 Former Quarterback: 'I Can't Wait' Alumnus Peter (Pete) McHugh has no problem recalling his favorite football memory at George Fox: homecoming 1966, when, as quarterback, he led the Bruins to a 14-0 shutout of the Seattle Cavaliers semipro team. Perhaps the best part: at halftime he presented flowers to the homecoming queen, his future wife Debbie Stewart. Now that George Fox is bringing the sport back, McHugh is understandably excited: "I can't wait," he says.

The university’s board of trustees approved the reinstallation of football in March after taking into consideration factors ranging from cost and enrollment impact to campus climate and the school’s gender ratio. A search for a football coaching staff is underway.
