MBSK: WHATS BRUIN - Bruins to Play at Northwest in Final Game Before Holiday Break

NEWBERG, Ore. - Hoping to conclude their pre-holiday schedule with a winning record, the George Fox University Bruins (3-3) head to the Seattle suburb of Kirkland, Wash., to play Northwest University on Friday, Dec. 11, their last game for over two weeks.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. against the high-flying Eagles (5-4), who are members of the Cascade Collegiate Conference and the NAIA's Division II. Northwest had a three-game winning streak snapped Tuesday as the University of Puget Sound rallied from 18 down with 13 minutes left to stun the Eagles 86-85 in Kirkland. G Blake Solomon leads Northwest in scoring (16.3 ppg), while 6-9 F Greg George (13.8 ppg, 8.1 rpg) and 6-8 F Greg Peters (7.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg) give the Eagles a formidable inside duo. G Tyson Christie (10.7 ppg) and G Rich Skillman (10.1 ppg off the bench) are additional scoring threats.
Series Record: George Fox leads the all-time series with Northwest 13-11 since 1971 (6-6 home, 7-5 away) ... The Eagles won both meetings last year, 72-64 in Kirkland (11/18/08) and 76-64 in Newberg (12/13/08) ... The Bruins' last win was 65-52 in Newberg (12/8/07).

The game is free; viewers just have to register to acquire a user name and password, follow the purchase process, and then load the game, but there is no charge. * Atwater Named BAA Athlete of the Week, HM for NWC Honors
After earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team at the 62nd Annual Lee Fulmer Memorial Tournament in Redlands, Calif., Evan Atwater has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Men's Athlete of the Week and received honorable mention for Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for Nov. 30-Dec. 6.
Atwater opened the tournament by hitting a game-winning three-pointer with 0:02 left to beat Menlo 69-67 on Thursday, finishing with 10 points on 3-9 field goals (1-4 on threes) and 3-4 free throws, with two assists. He led the Bruins with 22 points in an 82-79 overtime win over host Redlands on Friday, hitting another critical three with 11 seconds left in regulation and icing the game with three free throws in the final minutes of the overtime. He wound up 6-10 from the field (5-9 on threes) and 5-6 from the line, with six rebounds and three assists. In Saturday's 73-45 loss to Chapman in the title game, he had seven points on 2-7 field goals (1-3 on threes) and 2-2 free throws, with one assist. For the week, he scored 39 points (13.0 ppg) on 11-26 field goals (.423), including 7-16 on threes (.438), and 10-12 free throws (.833), with six rebounds and six assists.
Atwater, a senior guard from Port Orchard, Wash., currently 3rd in the NWC in 3-pt field goals (2.50, T), 9th in scoring (13.7) and 3-pt field goal pct. (.441), and 13th in field goal pct. (.448). He won the BAA weekly award and was honorable mention for NWC Student-Athlete of the Week twice last year.

He has worked 621 straight men's home games, not missing one since 1972 when he was in military service. In all, he has seen over half of all games ever played by the George Fox men's team (1,082 of 2,109 for 51.30%) in the 106 seasons of Bruin basketball.
