NEWBERG, Ore. – Speedy point guard Stephen Wiseley and high-flying wing Mike Taylor, the top two scorers for the George Fox University Bruins this season, have both received All-Northwest Conference Men’s Basketball Second Team recognition for 2010-11 as voted on by the league’s nine coaches.

Wiseley posted 23 games of double-figure scoring, with seven of 20 or more points and a career-high 29 at Puget Sound.  He had 13 games with five or more assists, tying his career high with nine at Northwest (Wash.), and had a career-high six steals in a win at Corban.  He hit six of eight three-pointers en route to 28 points in a win at Pacific, and sank 10 of 11 free throws at Corban.  He received honorable mention for NWC Student-Athlete of the Week for men’s basketball six times this year, and was Bruin Athletic Association Men’s Athlete of the Week four times.

Finishing his two-year Bruin career (he was a transfer from Bellevue Community College) with 736 points (14.72 ppg) and 240 assists (4.80 apg), Wiseley also ranks third on the all-time free throw percentage list at George Fox with a .849 mark (185-218).  He was an honorable mention All-NWC selection last year when he averaged 12.7 points a game, led the conference and was ninth nationally with an .891 free throw percentage, and was third in the league and 40th nationally in assists per game (4.96 apg).

Taylor, a junior from Los Angeles, Calif., made his mark immediately after transferring from NCAA Division I Marist College by scoring 30 points in his first Bruins’ game against Corban.  He scored in double figures 20 times and had 10 or more rebounds seven times, with five double-doubles.  For the season, he averaged 15.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.36 assists, and 1.72 assists a game, and had 17 blocked shots.  In conference stats, he ranked second in steals, third in rebounding, fourth in blocked shots (0.68), 10th in scoring, and 12th in assists.

Taylor was named the NWC Student-Athlete of the Week when he posted back-to-back games of 28 points and 10 rebounds at Pacific and 26 points and 13 rebounds vs. Lewis & Clark while shooting .719 from the field.  He also posted the first George Fox triple-double in 19 years with 18 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 assists in a win over Willamette.  He was honorable mention for NWC weekly honors twice, and was named the Bruin Athletic Association Men’s Athlete of the Week twice.

Wiseley and Taylor were key players for a George Fox team that went 8-17 overall, with 10 of those losses decided by six points or less, and tied for sixth in the conference at 6-10.

Another Michael Taylor, this one from league champion Whitworth, was named the NWC Player of the Year, while the Pirates’ Jim Hayford was named the Coach of the Year.
