PACIFIC 3-WAY: Bruins Open Spring Slate a Close 3rd in Pacific Play
BANKS, Ore. – Opening up the spring portion of their 2008-09 men’s golf schedule in the Pacific University 3-Way Invitational here at the Quail Valley Golf Course, the George Fox University Bruins completed the first day of play in third place with a score of 324.
Host Pacific carded a team score of 291 and held a comfortable
lead over second-place Corban College, which shot a
319. The tournament will conclude Sunday, with
the first tee time at 12:00 noon.
David Burkhart led the Bruins with a first-day score of 40-38=78,
tied for sixth in the individual standings and one stroke ahead of
Kelton Johnson’s 38-41=79, which was good for 10th
place. Also counting for the Bruins were Mike
Ulstad with a 42-39=81 (14th), and Aaron Burkhart with a 43-43=86
(18th). Other George Fox scores included a
45-44=89 by Dustin Churchill and a 44-52=96 by Ryan Stokke.
Pacific teammates Max Bonk and Brian Pan stood 1-2 in individual
play, Bonk with a 35-34=69 and Pan with
35-34=70. They were the only players below the
par 72.
