CORVALLIS, Ore. – Playing the part of a “gracious host”, the George Fox University Bruins finished 4th out of four teams in their own George Fox Invitational men’s golf tournament on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon here at the Trysting Tree Golf Course.
Pacific University’s #1 team took first place with a
10-over-par 298 on the par 72, 6,674-yard
course. Corban College was second with a 309,
followed by the Pacific #2 team at 320, and the host George Fox
team at 333.
Medalist honors went to Pacific #1’s Max Bonk, who shot a
sizzling 7-under-par 65, well ahead of runner-up Joey Duwe of
Corban, who carded an even-par 72. Steve Landis
of Corban was third with a 76, and Brian Pan of Pacific #1 was
fourth at 77.
Four players tied for fifth with 78’s, including the
Bruins’ Mike Ulstad. Other counting scores
for George Fox were an 81 for Matthew Fanning (tied for 12th), and
83’s by Aaron Burkhart and Dustin Churchill (tied for
16th). Also playing for the Bruins were David
Burkhart (85), Brett Tharp (87), and Kelton Johnson (92).
The Bruins return to the links Saturday-Sunday, March 14-15, in
the Pacific University Invitational at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf
Course in North Plains, Ore. Tee times will be
10:00 a.m. both days.
