NWC SPRING CLASSIC: Bruins in 8th Place after Day One of Spring Classic
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – With the first day of play in the Northwest Conference Men’s Golf Spring Classic in the books after Monday’s round here at the Chambers Bay Golf Course, the George Fox University Bruins stand in 8th place after shooting a four-player score of 333.
Leading the tournament is Pacific University with a score of 294,
six strokes ahead of Linfield College’s
300. Pacific Lutheran University stands third
with a 305, followed by the University of Puget Sound at 308,
Willamette University at 317, Whitworth University at 318, Whitman
College at 320, and then George Fox. Lewis &
Clark College had no entries and thus no team score.
The top score for the Bruins was turned in by David Burkhart, who
carded a 40-40=80 to tie for 23rd in the individual
standings. Also counting for the Bruins were
Mike Ulstad with a 43-40=83, Kelton Johnson with a 39-46=85, and
Brett Tharp with a 42-43=85. Ulstad is tied for
33rd, while Johnson and Tharp are tied for 39th.
Max Bonk of Pacific shot a six-under par 32-33=65 to take the
individual lead, six strokes ahead of the 35-36=71 posted by
teammate Tim Andrew. Alex Fitch of Linfield
stands third with a 38-34=72.
The Spring Classic, which counts as one-quarter of the score
toward the final NWC standings, concludes Tuesday, with the first
men’s tee times scheduled for 11:20 a.m.
