WILLAMETTE INVITATIONAL: Bruins Take Fourth as Season Opens at Willamette Event
SALEM, Ore. – Getting their second year of
intercollegiate men’s golf competition under way, the George
Fox University Bruins carded a team score of 344 to finish fourth
in the Willamette University Invitational Tournament Monday here at
the Illahe Hills Country Club course.
Linfield College took a 10-stroke victory over host Willamette,
299 to 309, with Pacific University placing third with a
313. After George Fox came Lewis & Clark
College, which had only one player entered and received no team
score.
Senior David Burkhart and freshman Mike Ulstad tied for top honors
for the Bruins, Burkhart with a 40-40=80 and Ulstad shooting a
38-42=80. The two tied for 13th in the
individual standings. Junior Dustin Churchill
carded a 43-46=89 (20th), and freshman Matt Fanning had a 52-43=95
(22nd) for the Bruins’ other two counting scores. Rounding
out the George Fox scores, senior Brett Tharp had a 47-49=96 and
sophomore Kelton Johnson a 47-52=99.
Tying for medalist honors were Andrew Fitch of Linfield (39-34=73)
and Shane Adversalo of Willamette (38-35=73).
There was a three-way tie for third at 75 among Tony Kordosky and
Yutaro Sakamoto of Linfield and Ben Bryant of Willamette.
The next match for George Fox is a dual match with Pacific on
Sunday at the Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore. Tee
time has not been announced yet
