LINFIELD INVITATIONAL: Bruins Finish Fourth in Linfield Tournament
McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Although they improved by seven
strokes from the first day to the second, it was not enough to lift
the George Fox University Bruins beyond a fourth-place finish in
the Linfield College Invitational men’s golf tournament held
Saturday and Sunday here at the Michelbook Country Club.
The Bruins carded a two-day score of 335-328=663 in their second
multi-team event of the fall. Host Linfield took
top honors with a 291-286=577, 13 strokes ahead of runner-up
Pacific University with a 294-296=590.
Southwestern Oregon Community College took third place with a
307-300=607.
Leading the Bruins was David Burkhart, whose two-day score of
80-78=158 was good for 16th individually. He was
followed by Brett Tharp with an 82-82=164 (20th, tie), Mike Ulstad
with an 85-80=165 (22nd), Aaron Burkhart with an 88-88=176 (26th),
and Dustin Churchill with a 101-90=191 (27th).
Kelton Johnson competed on Saturday and shot a 91, while Ryan
Stokke played only on Sunday and carded a 104.
Medalist honors went to Andrew Fitch of Linfield, who shot a
67-73=140. Runner-up was Max Bonk of Pacific
with a 72-71=143, while Linfield teammates Yutaro Sakamoto
(73-17=144) and Tyler Nelson (74-70=144) along with Pacific’s
Ben Wright (71-73=144) tied for third.
The Bruins will be back at Michelbook Friday, Oct. 3, for their
next competition, a dual match with Linfield. No tee time has
been announced yet for the match.
