WILLAMETTE DUAL: Bearcats Down Bruins 15-3 in Multi-Format Dual Match
SALEM, Ore. –
In a dual match that used several scoring formats with six points
up for grabs in each of two matches involving two-man teams and
three points available in two singles matches, the Willamette
University Bearcats defeated the George Fox University Bruins 15-3
in men's golf action Wednesday here at the Illahe Hills Country
Club.
In match #1, Willamette's team of Ben Bryant and Taylor McKenzie
defeated Dustin Churchill and Aaron Burkhart of George Fox 6-0. In
match #2, Shane Adversalo and Robbie Beard of Willamette downed the
Bruins’ team of Matt Fanning and Mike Ulstad 6-0.
Matches 1 and 2 were played using the Champman System Better Ball
match play for two points on the front nine, the Alternate Shot
system on the back nine for two points, and an overall 18-hole
standing for two more points for a total of six points.
Ian Osborne of Willamette competed in both the third and fourth
matches, taking on George Fox’s Kelton Johnson and Ryan
Stokke respectively. Johnson defeated Osborne 2-1 in match #3 2-1,
and then Osborne edged out Stokke 2-1 in match #4.
Matches 3 and 4 were two separate straight match play situations,
counting one point for each of the front and back nines, and then a
third point for the whole 18.
The next action for the Bruins will be the Boxer-Bruin
Invitational, co-hosted by George Fox and Pacific University, on
Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 11-12, at the Gearhart Golf Course in
Gearhart, Ore. Tee times both days are set for
12:30 p.m.
