BOXER-BRUIN INVITATIONAL: Linfield Takes First-Day Lead at Event in Gearhart
GEARHART, Ore. – Led by Tyler Nelson’s
34-35=69, the Linfield College Wildcats shot a team score of 285 to
take an eight-stroke lead on the first day of play in the
Boxer-Bruin Invitational men’s golf tournament, co-hosted by
Pacific University and George Fox University, Saturday afternoon
here at the Gearhart Golf Course.
The Pacific Boxers are second after 18 holes with a score of 293,
while the George Fox Bruins are third with a
341. The three teams will complete the
tournament Sunday, with tee time set for 12:30 p.m.
Nelson’s lead entering the final day is the slimmest of
margins, as J.T. Compher of Pacific is one stroke off the pace with
a 32-38=70. Kevin Duerr of Linfield is third
with a 36-35=71, while two players are tied for fourth at 72 -
Andrew Fitch of Linfield with a 34-38=72 and Max Bonk of Pacific
with a 35-37=72.
For George Fox, Mike Ulstad led the way with a
41-38=79. The Burkhart brothers shot an 86,
David with a 40-46=86 and Aaron with a 42-44=86.
Fourth was Kelton Johnson with a 43-47=90.
