NWC FALLCLASSIC: Linfield Out to Defend NWC Fall Classic Title at Canyon Lakes Course
NEWBERG, Ore. - Linfield College will be out to defend its Northwest Conference Fall Classic title in men’s golf at the 2008 event this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18-19, at the Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick, Wash. Tee times are set for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, and the public is welcome.
George Fox University, in only its second year of intercollegiate
men’s golf competition, wilI serve as the host institution
for this year’s Fall Classic, which is being held on an
award-winning par 72, 6,683-yard course. Canyon
Lakes has a four-and-a-half star rating with Golf Digest, and is
tied for the top rating among golf courses in the state of
Washington.
Linfield won last year’s Fall Classic at the Spokane Country
Club in Spokane, Wash., with a score of 604, edging host Whitworth
University’s 608. Pacific University was
third at 611, followed by Pacific Lutheran University at 619, the
University of Puget Sound at 630, Willamette University at 661,
Lewis & Clark College at 684, Whitman College at 697, and
George Fox at 715.
Chris Packard of Pacific Lutheran won the individual medalist
honors last fall with a score of 143, but he has graduated, so
there will be a new champion this year. Jordan
Carter of Whitworth and Tyler Nelson of Linfield each shot a 148 to
tie for second, but Carter is also gone, leaving Nelson as the
probable favorite to win this year’s crown.
Results of the NWC Fall Classic count as one-quarter of the season
score for determining the conference champion.
Teams in the Fall Classic and the NWC Spring Classic receive one
point each for each team they beat, and two points for each team
they beat in April's NWC Championship event.
Results of each day’s play in the NWC Fall Classic will be
available on line on the George Fox University men’s golf web
site at www.georgefox.edu/athletics/mens_golf/index.html.
