MGF: WILLAMETTE INVITATIONAL: Bruins 5th out of Six in One-Day Willamette Event

SALEM, Ore. - Chris Lumdsen was the top scorer for George Fox University with an 11-over-par 83 and a 13th-place finish as the Bruins came in fifth out of six teams in the Willamette University Invitational Men’s Golf Tournament, a one-day 18-hole event, held Monday afternoon here at the Creekside Country Club.

As a team, George Fox recorded a four-player score of 350, trailing Linfield College’s #2 team at 315, Corban College at 319, host Willamette at 341, Lewis & Clark College at 348, and ahead of Linfield’s #1 team with a 354.

Also counting for the Bruins were Kyle Wilson, who tied for 15th with an 87 on the par-72, 6,887-yard course, and Matt Fanning and Aleks Gabrio, who were in a three-way tie for 17th with a 90.  Other George Fox scores included a 98 by Kelton Johnson (25th,tie) and a 108 by Joel Stude (33rd). 

Medalist honors went to Joey Duwe, who actually tied with Tyler Nelson of Linfield #1 at 73, but a scorecard tiebreaker using the 5th hole determined the medalist.  Joel Rychard of Linfield #2 was third at 75, Robbie Beard of Willamette shot a 76, and Alex Fitch of Linfield #2 had a 77.

The next tournament for the Bruins will be the University of Puget Sound Dual Match on Saturday-Sunday, Mar. 27-28, at The Classic Golf Course in Spanaway, Wash.  Tee time is set for 12.00 noon.
