PORTLAND, Ore. – After entering the day in seventh place in the Northwest Conference Men’s Golf Championship but within six strokes of fourth, the George Fox University Bruins improved their score -along with almost everyone else - and remained seventh as the tournament concluded Sunday here on the Heron Lakes Great Blue Golf Course.

Whitworth University hung on to win the championship after posting a two-day score of 309-309=618 on the par 72, 6,902-yard course. With the win, the Pirates earned the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III National Tournament coming up May 11-14 at the Hershey Links and Country Club in Hershey, Pa.

The University of Puget Sound finished three strokes out of first place with a two-day score of 318-302=620.  Linfield College and Pacific University tied for third place, Linfield shooting 310-312=622 and Pacific 323-299=622 with Sunday’s low round.  Whitman College finished fourth with a 321-321=642, followed by Pacific Lutheran University at 323-320=643, George Fox at 327-322=649, Willamette University at 358-338=696, and Lewis & Clark College at 369-350=719.
