WILLAMETTE INVITATIONAL: Bruins Hope to Start Spring Season in Willamette Event
NEWBERG, Ore. – Hoping to get the spring portion of their 2010-11 men’s golf season going at last, the George Fox University Bruins will participate in the often-moved Willamette University Invitational on Saturday, March 5, with a scheduled tee time of 11:00 a.m. at the Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore.
The original plans for the Willamette event were to play on Feb. 27-28 at the Centennial Golf Course in Medford, Ore., but severe weather - rain, snow, and cold - made the course virtually unplayable. In an effort to get at least some playing time in, the host Bearcats changed the Invitational to a one-day competition and set it for Monday, Feb. 28, at the Creekside Golf Club in Salem, Ore. However, the weather did not co-operate any better on Monday, with a steady downpour and chilly temperatures, forcing yet another move.
There will be both men’s and women’s tournaments at the Willamette Invitational. Expected to join the Bruins and Bearcats in the men’s division are Corban University, Pacific University, and Lewis & Clark College. The women’s tournament will have Willamette, Corban, Pacific, and Linfield College.
George Fox enters the spring season with two points in the Northwest Conference standings after finishing seventh in the NWC Fall Classic in October.
