WILLAMETTE INVITATIONAL: Wilson Leads Trio of Bruin Golfers in First Spring Event
BANKS, Ore. – Kyle Wilson led a trio of George Fox University players entered in the one-day Willamette University Invitational Tournament with an 18-hole score of 80, eight-over-par, as the Bruins got the spring portion of their 2010-11 men’s golf season under way Saturday here at the Quail Valley Golf Course.
Wilson’s score placed him 11th among the 19 participants. He was joined by Trevor Pielstick, who carded an 11-over 83 to finish 14th, and Joel Stude, who shot a 22-over 94 to place 18th. Because they did not have the necessary four golfers entered, the Bruins were unable to record a team score.
Corban University took team honors with a score of 293, five-over-par on the 6,318-yard course. Pacific University took second with a 13-over 301, and host Willamette was third with a 75-over 363.
Medalist honors went to Joey Duwe of Corban, whose 3-under 69 was four strokes ahead of the 1-over 73’s by teammates Chris Dudley and Joey Ziogas and Pacific’s Max Bonk.
NEXT: The Bruins will have a month off before their next tournament, the Northwest Conference Spring Classic on Saturday-Sunday, April 2-3, at The Links at Hawks Prairie in Lacey, Wash. However, the Bruins will have their golf carts full in April with three other events, including their own George Fox Invitational on April 9-10 at the Chehalem Glenn Golf Course in Newberg.
