GFU INVITATIONAL: Linfield Maintains Big Lead in Coasting to GFU Tourney Title
NEWBERG, Ore. – Leading by 20 strokes entering the final day of play, the Linfield College Wildcats maintained their comfortable advantage on an uncomfortable rainy Sunday morning to win the George Fox University Invitational men’s golf tournament by 18 shots here at the Chehalem Glenn Golf Course.
Linfield finished with a four-player team score of 302-318=620 on the 6,572-yard course, well ahead of the Pacific University Boxers with a 322-316=638. The Pacific Lutheran University Lutes took third place with a 324-325=649, while the Lewis & Clark College Pioneers (337-338=675) and the host George Fox Bruins (342-333=675) tied for fourth.
Yutaro Sakamoto, the individual leader after the first day, also hung onto his lead to capture medalist honors with a three-over-par 72-75=147, two strokes ahead of Max Bonk of Pacific, who shot a 74-75=149. Alex Fitch of Linfield finished third with a 74-79=153, while Evan Wallace of Linfield (75-82=157) and Dustin Hegge of Pacific Lutheran (78-79=157) tied for fourth.
Mike Ulstad led the Bruins with an 80-85=165, good for 13th on the leaderboard. Austin Rowland was 14th with an 81-85=166, Kyle Wilson was 18th with an 84-86=170, and Trevor Pielstick was 27th with a 97-91=188. Aleks Gabrio, who was unavailable for play on Saturday, had the Bruins’ best score on Sunday with a 77, the fourth-best round of the day.

NEXT: George Fox will participate in the Whitman College Invitational Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 16-17, at the Wine Valley Golf Course in Walla Walla, Wash. Tee times are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
