NWC FALL CLASSIC: Gabrio Tied for 4th, Bruin Team Tied for 6th after Day One
REDMOND, Ore. – Aleks Gabrio is tied for fourth place on the leaderboard with a five-over-par 78 while his team, the George Fox University Bruins, are tied for sixth, one stroke out of fifth, after the first day of play in the Northwest Conference Men’s Golf Fall Classic Saturday here at the Juniper Golf Course.
The Bruins shot a four-player score of 340 on the par 72, 7,186-yard course and are deadlocked with Pacific Lutheran University, one shot behind Whitman College’s 339. The University of Puget Sound at 320 has a 10-shot lead over three teams knotted in second with 330 scores - Linfield College, Pacific University, and Whitworth University. Willamette University is eighth with a 356, and Lewis & Clark College stands ninth at 380.
Max Bonk of Pacific shot a one-over-par 73 to take a three-shot lead over Alex Fitch of Linfield at 76 in the race for medalist honors. Andrew Welch of Whitman is in third with a 77, while Gabrio is even at 78 with Riley Conlin of Puget Sound and Jacob Simonson of Willamette.
Other Bruin scores that counted for the first day were an 84 by Kyle Wilson, tied for 17th, and 89’s by Chris Lumdsen and Trevor Pielstick, tied for 28th. Rounding out the George Fox squad were Mike Ulstad, tied for 41st with a 93, and Austin Rowland, tied for 48th with a 97.
The NWC Fall Classic, the final match of the fall season for all the conference teams, concludes here Sunday, with first tee time set for 10:00 a.m.
