PACIFIC FALL INVITATIONAL: Bruins End Season-Opening Event with No Team Score
BANKS, Ore. - Kyle Wilson shot a five-over-par 77 to lead the George Fox University men's golf team on the final day of play in the two-day Pacific University Fall Invitational Monday here at the Quail Valley Golf Course, but because the Bruins had only two players who competed in both rounds, they were unable to receive a team score.
Northwest Conference golf regulations require that at least four players complete each round of a tournament for a team score to be credited. Mike Ulstad and Trevor Pielstick played both rounds for the Bruins, but Aleks Gabrio, Austin Rowland, and Joel Stude, who played on Sunday, were unable to play on Monday due to class conflicts. Wilson and Chris Lumsden stepped in instead.
Lumdsen shot an 80 on the par 72, 6,628-yard course, with Pielstick shooting an 81 and Ulstad an 86, which would have given the Bruins a score of 324 for the day. Pielstick finished with a two-day score of 78-81=159, tied for 18th in the individual standings, and Ulstad had a 79-86=165, tied for 24th.
Host Pacific won the tournament with a final score of 296-308=604. Linfield College took second with a 302-310=612, followed by Corban College, the only non-NWC team in the field, with a 310-307=617, Willamette University with a 333-319=652, and Lewis & Clark College with a 343-325=668.
Medalist honors went to Pacific's Max Bonk, who shot a four-under-par 71-69=140. Steve Landis of Corban took second with a 76-75=151, and Joey Ziogas of Corban (73-79=152) and Alex Fitch of Linfield (75-77=152) tied for third.
NEXT: The Bruins will compete in the one-day Linfield Invitational this Friday, Sept. 24, at the Michelbook Country Club in McMinnville, Ore. Tee times have not yet been announced.
