PACIFIC FALL INVITATIONAL: Bruins in 4th Place after Day One at Quail Valley
BANKS, Ore. - Getting their 2010-11 men's golf season under way, the George Fox University Bruins shot a four-player score of 315 and stand in fourth place out of six teams after the first day of competition in the Pacific University Fall Invitational Sunday afternoon here at the Quail Valley Golf Course.
Host Pacific holds a six-stroke lead, 296 to 302, over Linfield College. Corban College, the only non-Northwest Conference team in the tournament, is third with a 310, followed by George Fox, Willamette University at 333, and Lewis & Clark College at 343.
Bruin teammates Aleks Gabrio and Trevor Pielstick are among a group of five golfers tied for 11th on the leaderboard after first-round 78's on the par 72, 6,628-yard course. Mike Ulstad is one stroke back at 79, tied for 16th, and Austin Rowland is tied for 19th with an 80. Joel Stude shot a 106 and is 35th.
The race for medalist honors is a tight one. Pacific's Max Bonk took the lead with a one-under 71, with fellow Boxer Parrish Evans one stroke back with an even-par 72. Yutaro Sakamoto of Linfield and Joey Ziogas of Corban are tied at 73, and Mark Spathas of Lewis & Clark is fifth with a 74.
First tee times for the second and final round of the Pacific Fall Invitational are set for 8:00 a.m. Monday.
