LUTES INVITATIONAL: Bruins Slip from 6th to 7th as Pacific Lutheran Event Concludes
DuPONT, Wash. – Suffering a five-stoke setback on the second day of play in the Lutes Invitational men’s golf tournament hosted by Pacific Lutheran University here at The Home Course, the George Fox University Bruins slipped from sixth to seventh place as the eight-team tournament came to a conclusion here Sunday.
Linfield College, despite added seven strokes to its first-day score, won by a comfortable 13 shots, shooting a two-day score of 300-307=607 on the par-72, 7,037-yard course. Pacific Lutheran climbed two spots to finish second with a 312-308=620, while Whitworth University (304-321=625) and North Idaho College (310-315=625) tied for third. The University of Puget Sound was fifth at 322-309=631, followed by Willamette University at 329-313=642, George Fox at 327-332=659, and Pacific University at 347-337=684.
Mike Ulstad shot a consistent 80-80=160 to lead the Bruins and tie for 17th on the leader board. Kyle Wilson had the second-best score for George Fox with an 82-81=163, finishing 27th. Behind him were Chris Lumsden at 83-82=165, tied for 29th; Aleks Gabrio at 82-89=171, tied for 36th; and Tyler Dyck at 93-94=187, finishing 39th.
Medalist honors went to Alex Fitch of Linfield, who carded a 4-over-par 72-76=148. Close behind him were teammate Taylor Klopp with a 72-77=149, Jesse Salzwedel of Whitworth with a 73-76=149, and Tim Livermore of PLU with a 75-75=150.
