PACIFIC INVITATIONAL: Gabrio Ties for 11th but Bruins Slip Back to Finish 6th
BANKS, Ore. – A consistent Aleks Gabrio shot a 77-77=154 to tie for 11th place in the individual standings, but that was not enough to prevent the George Fox University Bruins from slipping from fifth to sixth as the Pacific University Fall Invitational Men’s Golf Tournament ended Sunday here at the Quail Valley Golf Course.
After a 311 on Saturday, the Bruins shot a four-player score of 320 on Sunday over the par-72, 6,345-yard course for an overall 631 score, three strokes behind Whitman College’s 312-316=628. Linfield College took the title with a 283-308=591, Corban University (297-308=605) was second, Willamette University (285-320=605) was third, and host Pacific was fourth at 297-326=623. Lewis & Clark College had two individual players but no team score.
Gabrio edged Kyle Wilson, who shot a 75-80=155 to tie for 14th, for Bruin top honors. Mike Ulstad finished 18th with a 75-81=156. Also competing for the Bruins were Tyler Dyck, who tied for 28th with an 84-82=166, and Joel Stude, who came in 34th with an 89-94=183.
All team scores and almost all individual scores were higher on Sunday due to some rain showers and a much windier day. The weather did not seem to faze medalist Alex Fitch of Linfield, who carded a five-under-par 69-70=139 for the win. Joey Duwe of Corban took second with a 67-75=142, while first-day leader Ryan Kukula of Willamette slid to third with a 66-78=144.
