WHITWORTH INVITATIONAL: Bruins Remain 8th as Whitworth Fall Event Finishes
SPOKANE, Wash. – A distant eighth out of nine teams heading into the second and final day of the Whitworth University Men’s Golf Fall Invitational on Monday, the George Fox University Bruins were unable to close the gap on any of the teams ahead of them and finished eighth in the event here at the Spokane Country Club.
George Fox shot a four-player score of 341 on Monday and wound up with a final total of 339-341=680 on the par-72, 6,653-yard course. Host Whitworth, tied with the University of Puget Sound after the first day at 296, shot a Monday low of 291 to win the tournament with a 587, 11-over-par. Puget Sound took second with a 296-296=592, followed by North Idaho College at 299-295=594, Pacific Lutheran University at 297-305=602, Linfield College at 309-303=612, Whitman College at 309-304=613, Willamette University at 306-311=617, George Fox, and Pacific University at 343-350=693.
Chris Lumsden was the Bruins’ top scorer, carding a two-day score of 79-85=164 to tie for 41st. He was joined by Mike Ulstad, who was 44th with an 84-87=171, Tyler Dyck, who tied for 45th with an 87-85=172, and Kyle Wilson, whose 89-84=173 placed 48th.
Day one leader Dustin Hegge of PLU hung on to win medalist honors with a two-under-par 68-74=142. Adam Bean of UPS had Monday’s best round and climbed to second with a 732-71=144. Christian Boudreau of Whitworth and Alex Fitch of Linfield tied for third, both with scores of 72-73=145.
