Gabrio Grabs BAA Weekly Award, HM for NWC Honors after Fine Fall Classic

NEWBERG, Ore. – After leading the George Fox Bruins to a sixth-place finish with a steady showing in the Northwest Conference Fall Classic on Oct. 22-23, Aleks Gabrio has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Men’s Athlete of the Week for Oct. 17-23, and also received honorable mention for the NWC Men’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Week.

Gabrio carded a two-day score of 76-78=154, tying for 11th on the leader board, on the par-72, 6,491-yard Great Blue course at the Heron Lakes Golf Course in Portland, Ore.  His score, which equaled his tournament low for the young season, helped the Bruins climb from seventh after the first day to sixth on the second day in a tightly-packed field.

Gabrio, a junior from Creswell, Ore., leads the Bruins with a 77.5 scoring average.  He has been the top scorer or tied for the top score for George Fox in each of the three tournaments in which he has competed.  He is the third Bruin golfer to win the BAA award this fall, joining Mike Ulstad (Sept. 12-18) and Chris Lumsden (Oct. 3-9).

The George Fox Athlete of the Week Award for both men and women is presented throughout the Bruin sports seasons by the Bruin Athletic Association, whose mission is to provide George Fox student-athletes with an outstanding athletic and academic experience and to strengthen the overall competitiveness of the Bruin athletics program.  For more information about the organization or to become a member, visit the Bruin Athletic Association website
