LINFIELD INVITATIONAL: Lumsden Becomes First Bruin to Capture Medalist Honors
McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Shooting an even-par 72 to edge three other challengers by a single stroke, senior Chris Lumsden became the first George Fox University Bruin to win a men’s golf tournament in the six-year history of the program as he captured the Linfield College Invitational Thursday afternoon here at the Michelbook Country Club.
Lumsden’s score on the par-72, 6,572-yard course was just enough to edge Linfield teammates Taylor Klopp and Connor Magnuson and Concordia University-Portland’s Cody Johnson. Tied for fifth, two shots back at 74, were Cody Fried of Concordia and Jared Lambert of Corban University.
Concordia took home team honors with a four-player, 18-hole score of 301, 13-over-par. Host Linfield took second, three shots back with a 304, followed by Corban with a 308, Linfield’s second team with a 315, and George Fox with a 323. It was the first tournament of the new season for the Bruins.
Also counting for the Bruins were Aleks Gabrio with an 81 (16th), and Tyler Dyck and Kyle Wilson, each at 85 (tied for 22nd). Rounding out the George Fox quintet was Joel Stude, who carded a 99 (27th).
