PLU INVITATIONAL: Bruins Slide Back in the Pack to Wind Up 8th in PLU Tournament
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Tied for fifth after the first round of the Pacific Lutheran University Men’s Golf Invitational, the George University Bruins were unable to hold onto their place, added five more strokes to their score, and slipped to eighth as the tournament concluded Monday here at the Chambers Bay Golf Course.
After a Sunday score of 326, the Bruins shot a four-player, 18-hole team score of 331 on Monday to finish with a 657. Host PLU extended its one-stroke lead to win going away with a 304-291=595, 13 shots ahead of the University of Puget Sound’s 305-303=608. Whitman College (310-314=624) and Whitworth University (313-311=624) tied for third. Linfield College took fifth (327-299=626), followed by Willamette University (326-312=638), PLU’s “B” team (327-326=653), George Fox, Trinity Lutheran College (350-330=680), Pacific University (346-359=705), and Lewis & Clark College (367-339=706).
Aleks Gabrio had the Bruins’ best round on Monday, carding a three-over-par 75 on the par-72, 6,583-yard course to finish with an 83-75-158 and tied for 18th in the individual standings. Chris Lumsden had the Bruins’ best composite score with a 75-78=153, tied for eighth.
Also scoring for George Fox on Monday were Tyler Dyck with a final 83-84=167, tied for 35th, and Dylan Harris with an 85-94=179, finishing 47th. Kyle Wilson, who shot a 94 on Sunday, had to withdraw on Monday due to illness.
Medalist honors went to Puget Sound’s Adam Bean, who compiled a one-under-par 73-70=143 to finish four shots ahead of PLU’s Dustin Hegge, who shot a 74-73=147. Tied for third were Auston Hilkin of PLU and Oliver Rudnicki of Whitworth, each with a 74-75=149, while Taylor Klopp of Linfield was fifth with a 78-72=150. The day’s best round was a three-under 69 by Sevryn Modahl of PLU, who tied for 14th with an 86-69=155.

NEXT: All nine Northwest Conference teams will compete in the NWC Fall Classic on Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 27-28, at the Tri-Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield, Wash., concluding the fall portion of the 2012-13 season. The Fall Classic constitutes one quarter of the points total toward the overall conference championship, as does the NWC Spring Classic, with the NWC Championship Tournament later in the spring counting as one half of the total score ... Puget Sound won its second straight NWC Fall Classic last year, with George Fox finishing sixth.
