NWC FALL CLASSIC: Gabrio and Bruins Both Stand 4th after Round One of Fall Classic
RIDGEFIELD, Wash. – Aleks Gabrio shot a one-over-par 73 to tie for fourth place on the leader board while his George Fox University team also holds down fourth in the team standings after the first round of the Northwest Conference Men’s Golf Fall Classic played on a wet, cold Saturday here at the Tri-Mountain Golf Course.
The Bruins shot a four-player 18-hole team score of 315, 27-over-par on the par-72, 6,580-yard course. Whitworth University holds a one-stroke lead over the two-time defending champion University of Puget Sound, 301 to 302. Pacific Lutheran University is third at 309, followed by George Fox, Linfield College at 318, Whitman College at 320, Willamette University at 326, Lewis & Clark College at 333, and Pacific University at 337.
Gabrio is locked in a three-way tie with Joshua Mau of Pacific and Jesse Salzwedel of Whitworth, all just two strokes back of leader Dustin Hegge of Pacific Lutheran, who has a one-under 71. Stephen Plopper of Whitworth and Derek Wilson of Puget Sound are tied for second with 72’s.
The Bruins’ Chris Lumsden and Kyle Wilson each shot an 80, tying them with five others for 18th. Tyler Dyck carded an 82 and is tied for 30th, while Dylan Harris rounded out the George Fox fivesome with a 90, putting him 41st.
The Fall Classic concludes Sunday, with all players going off at 8:30 a.m. in a shotgun start. George Fox’s men will begin their second rounds on holes 13-15. The NWC Women’s Golf Fall Classic is going on at the same time on the same course.
The Fall Classic constitutes one quarter of the points total toward the overall conference championship, as does the NWC Spring Classic, with the NWC Championship Tournament later in the spring counting as one half of the total score.
