NWC FALL CLASSIC: Bruins Improve Score but Slip to 7th in Final Fall Classic Standings
RIDGEFIELD, Wash. – Although the George Fox University Bruins were able to improve their second-day score under better weather conditions, so did several other teams, with the result that the Bruins slipped from fourth to seventh as the Northwest Conference Men’s Golf Fall Classic concluded Sunday here at the Tri-Mountain Golf Course.
George Fox finished with a four-player 18-hole score of 314 on the par-72, 6,580-yard course on Monday, resulting in a final count of 315-314=692. Whitworth University improved its one-stroke first-day lead and won going away by 19 strokes with a 301-286=587 score. The two-time defending champion University of Puget Sound was second with a 302-304=606. Pacific Lutheran University was third with a 309-298=607, while Linfield College (318-295=613) and Whitman College (320-293=613) tied for fourth. Willamette University was sixth at 326-298=624, then came George Fox, Lewis & Clark College at 333-337=670, and Pacific University at 337-344=681.
Chris Lumsden had the Bruins’ best score on Monday with a two-over-par 74 and finished in a tie for 17th with an 80-74=154 score. Also counting on Monday were Kyle Wilson, who carded an 80-83=163 to place 32nd, and Tyler Dyck with an 82-82=164, good for 33rd. Dylan Harris completed the Bruin lineup with a 90-86=176 for 41st.
Medalist honors went to Ryan Kukula of Willamette with a 74-68=142, just ahead of a 73-70=143 by Jesse Salzwedel of Whitworth and a 71-73=144 by Dustin Hegge of Pacific Lutheran. The best score of the day was a five-under 67 by Lyle Rudnicki of Whitworth, who tied for fifth with an 80-67=147.
All the Northwest Conference schools have now completed the first half of the 2012-13 season. The Fall Classic constitutes one quarter of the points total toward the overall conference championship, as does the NWC Spring Classic, with the NWC Championship Tournament later in the spring counting as one half of the total score.
