Men's Golf 2017 Season Preview

A Winning Tradition

  • One NWC Player of the Year (Alex Plusquellec, 2017-18)
  • Two Division III PING All-Region Team
  • Six All-NWC Athletes

NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox men's golf team is looking to make a splash in the 2017-18 season, as the squad returns everyone from the previous season while adding four new players.

Going into the season, the Bruins were picked fourth in the Northwest Conference head coaches' poll after finishing sixth last season. George Fox will be led by seniors Alex Plusquellec and Mason Mueller, who will be counted on to provide experience and leadership.

"I'm excited for this season and the growth I've seen from our guys," said head coach Branden Thompson. "We've brought on four new players who I expect will make an immediate impact. We will have guys fighting for spots all year."

The new players are Nathaniel Gurnee, Joshua Lackey, Christian Lou and Travis Wood. Those four will join the Bruins as the program tries to climb the NWC leaderboard.

Last season, Plusquellec and Mason Koch led the Bruins, as both players earned All-NWC second-team honors – marking the first time multiple Bruins made the list.

George Fox kicks off its season at the California State Intercollegiate in Ventura, California, at the Olivas Links Golf Course Sept. 18-19. The Bruins will then head to the Puget Sound Fall Conference Preview in Bremerton, Washington, at the Gold Mountain Golf Course Sept. 23-24.

The biggest month of the fall season will come in October, as the Bruins compete at the George Fox Invitational (Oct. 7-8), the NWC Fall Classic (Oct. 14-15) and the Whitman Fall Invitational (Oct. 28-29).

"This should be a great year for us," added Thompson. "We want to improve upon last year and win a couple more tournaments. It will be another exciting season for the men's golf program."
