Bruins In Second At George Fox Invitational

GEARHART, Ore. --- The George Fox men's golf team hosted six teams Saturday in the first round of the George Fox Invitational, as the Bruins are four strokes off of first place in second.

Willamette leads the Invitational with a team score of 298. The Bruins sit in second with a 302, while Linfield College is currently in third with a 304 team score. The Bruins also had a second team compete as the "B" squad, and are in fourth with a 313 team score.

The Bruins were in good form in the opening round with all four scoring players in the 70's. Sophomore Mason Koch led the way for the Bruins with an even-par 72 to sit tied for second. Alex Plusquellec finished one shot off of Koch with a 1-over-par 73 to place tied for fourth. Freshman sensation Joshua Lackey continued to impress for the Bruins with a 6-over-par 78 to crack the Top 20 at T-15th. Clayton Rajewich finished with a 7-over-par 79 to hold firm at T-21st. Mason Mueller was the final Bruin with an 80 to place 26th.

As for the "B" team, Tanner Washburn led the Bruins with a 4-over-par 76 and is tied for sixth. Caleb Fernandez signed a 77 to place T-11th, while Nathaniel Gurnee sits at T-21st with Rajewich with a 79. Christian Lou shot an 81 and is T-27th and Travis Wood recorded a 108 to place 43rd.

Trent Jones of Willamette leads the field of 43 golfers with a 1-under-par 71.

The Bruins will tee off Sunday, Oct. 8, in the final round of the George Fox Invitational.
