PUGET SOUND 4, GEORGE FOX 0: Efficient Loggers Beat Bruins on 4 Goals in 6 Shots
TACOMA, Wash. – Although they managed only six shots on goal all afternoon, the opportunistic University of Puget Sound Loggers scored on four of them - one of them an ‘own goal’ - to defeat the George Fox University Bruins 4-0 in a Northwest Conference men’s soccer match Sunday here at East Field.
Andrew White got the home team off and running in the 18th minute when he took a cross from Kyle Benson in the box, turned on his defender, and scored from six yards out. Benson picked up a goal of his own just over two minutes later when Landon Gauthier bounced a pass to him and he slid the ball home from six yards away to make it 2-0.
In the 43rd minute, the Loggers got a gift from the Bruins with an ‘own goal’ off a cross that was inadvertantly knocked into the net by a Bruin defender. White got a second goal for the Loggers’ only score of the second half when he took a shot in the 55th minute that bounced off George Fox netminder Elliott Davis, then hit the rebound in.
Puget Sound out-shot George Fox 13-4 overall and limited the Bruins to three shots on goal - one each by Luke Andrew, Christian Reed, and Sean Jany. Davis had one save in 76 minutes and Kasey Haugan one in 14 minutes for the Bruins, while Chris McDonald made two saves in 65 minutes and Kevin Halasz one in 25 minutes for the Loggers.
