Recent Results (0-1-1):

Linfield scored seven goals when the Bruins and Wildcats met on Sept. 26, but this time, the George Fox defense knuckled down to stifle their Yamhill County rivals. Linfield won with a well-executed goal in the first half, but George Fox keeper Elliott Davis tied his career high with 10 saves to keep the game close. Christian Reed and David Rickey had three shots each, two on goal, to lead the Bruins.

In another fine defensive effort, the Bruins limited the visiting Bearcats to 16 shots and only four on goal as the teams battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie. The Bruins had 15 shots but only three on goal. Elliott Davis had four saves for the Bruins, and Christian Reed got the most scoring chances with five shots, one on goal.
BRUIN BITS ---
* Davis Repeats as BAA Award Winner, HM for NWC Defensive Honors
Highlighting a rapidly-improving George Fox defense, goalkeeper Elliott Davis turned in two strong efforts as the Bruins went 0-1-1 last week, repeating as Bruin Athletic Association Men’s Athlete of the Week for Oct. 11-17 and again earning honorable mention for Northwest Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week.
In a 1-0 loss to Linfield on Oct. 16, Davis tied his career high with 10 saves, set a week earlier in a game against league-leading Pacific, and gave the Bruins a chance to win or tie against a team that had beaten them 7-0 in their first meeting. On Oct. 17, the Bruins battled Willamette to a 0-0 double-overtime tie, the defense limiting the Bearcats to 16 shots in all and only four on goal. Davis stopped every one, including two in the second overtime to preserve the scoreless deadlock. For the week, he faced 38 total shots and 15 on goal, making 14 saves.
A sophomore from Canby, Ore., Davis currently ranks 1st in the NWC in saves per game (1st, 6.40) and saves (64), and is 8th in save pct. (.696). He is one of four men’s soccer player to earn BAA honors this fall and the only one to do it twice, joining forwards Torrey Santiago and David Rickey and goalkeeper Danny Kamna, who have also been honorable mention for NWC weekly honors.
The Athlete of the Week Award for both men and women is presented throughout the Bruin sports seasons by the Bruin Athletic Association, whose mission is to provide George Fox student-athletes with an outstanding athletic and academic experience and to strengthen the overall competitiveness of the Bruin athletics program. For more information about the organization or to become a member, visit the Bruin Athletic Association website.
