The Northwest Conference teams from the Puget Sound area will get their first look at the new Austin Sports Complex soccer field as they visit Newberg for the Bruins’ final two home games of the 2010 season. The Puget Sound Loggers are in on Saturday and the Pacific Lutheran Lutes drop by Sunday, both games starting at 2:30 p.m. Sunday’s contest will be part of the final home doubleheader of the season, as the George Fox women entertain Lewis & Clark in a 12:00 noon preliminary. The Bruins are still seeking their first win of the season and first goal on their new field.

Tickets: Ticket prices for George Fox soccer matches at the Austin Sports Complex, which is located at the corner of Villa Rd. and Crestview Dr. a mile north of the main campus, are $6 for adults and $3 for non-GFU students and seniors 55 and over. Children 6 and under who are not in school are free. George Fox faculty, staff, and students are admitted free with valid GFU ID; the ID covers immediate family members for George Fox employees.

Sat., Oct. 23 - L 0-3 at Whitworth
The Pirates ended a three-game losing streak by out-shooting the Bruins 23-6 and holding them without a shot on goal. Nick Schoen led the Bruins with three total shots. Elliott Davis had two saves and Kasey Haugan one as they shared duties in the net.
Sun., Oct. 24 - L 2-5 at Whitman
The Bruins held a 2-0 lead with less than 30 minutes left on goals by Andrew van der Werff and Christian Reed, the first of the season for both, but could not sustain it. The Missionaries exploded for three goals to take the lead in less than three minutes and tallied five scores in a 10-minute span. Nick Schoen again led the Bruins with three shots and Elliott Davis had eight saves.
BRUIN BITS ---
* Reed Garners Honorable Mention for NWC Offensive Weekly Honors
Although listed as a defender, Christian Reed is turning into one of the Bruins’ biggest offensive threats as he led the team in shots on goal and gave them their biggest lead of the season during an 0-2 week, receiving recognition as honorable mention for Northwest Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 18-24.
Reed, a freshman from Jenks, Okla., had one shot out of six in all for the Bruins in a 3-0 loss at Whitworth on Oct. 23. In an eventual 5-2 loss at Whitman on Oct. 24, he had two shots, both on goal, and gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead with 30 minutes left on an unassisted goal from 20 yards out, his first score of the season. He is the third Bruin of the year to receive honorable mention for NWC Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week, joining Torrey Santiago and David Rickey.

* Coach Tim Tsohantaridis:
Tim Tsohantaridis (Barrington ‘ 77) is 57-64-9 (.473) in the third year of his second tour of duty and seventh season overall as head coach of the George Fox men’s team. He led the Bruins to a 50-23-4 record from 1986-89, winning the NCCAA national championship in 1988 and earning NCCAA National Coach of the Year honors for that achievement. Counting a 7-6-1 record in one season (1979) at Barrington, he has a cumulative record in his eighth season as a college head coach of 64-70-10 (.479).
