GEORGE FOX 0, SIMPSON 0: Bruins Battle Red Hawks to Scoreless Tie in 2 OT

NEWBERG, Ore. - With each team seeking its first non-loss of the new season, both the George Fox University Bruins and the Simpson University Red Hawks got some measure of satisfaction Saturday night here at the Austin Sports Complex as they battled to a 0-0 standoff after two overtime periods in a men's non-conference soccer match.

George Fox out-shot Simpson 21-10 overall and 7-5 in shots on goal.  The overtimes were particularly spirited as each team took five shots in the extra 20 minutes.  George Fox had multiple opportunities with 10 corner kicks to only one for Simpson.

Christian Reed led the Bruins with four shots and two on goal, while Luis Perez was one of four Red Hawks who had two shots, with both of his on goal.  Goalkeepers Danny Kamna of George Fox, who made four saves, and Matt Deacon of Simpson, who had seven stops, went the distance and recorded shutouts.

George Fox is now 0-2-1 on the season, while Simpson moves to 0-1-1.

NEXT: George Fox has completed the non-conference portion of its schedule and will start Northwest Conference play Friday at 7:30 against Whitman College, followed by Whitworth University Sunday at 2:30 p.m.  Both will be doubleheaders with women's matches at 5:00 p.m. Friday and 12:00 noon Sunday ...  There will be no Saturday games for the Bruins this weekend because the "Whits" are also playing Pacific University on this road swing, and Pacific's football team, which shares its field with the soccer teams, has a home game Saturday ...  Simpson plays Hope International University Friday at 1:00 p.m. in Santa Clarita, Calif.
