Davis’ Defensive Efforts Earn Bruin Athletic Association Honors for Oct. 31-Nov. 6

NEWBERG, Ore. – Closing out the 2011 men’s soccer season with a strong defensive effort in a 1-0 loss at Pacific University on Nov. 5, George Fox goalkeeper Elliott Davis has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Men’s Athlete of the Week award winner for Oct. 29-Nov. 4, his first time this year to be so honored.

Davis, a junior from Canby, Ore., kept the Bruins in the game at Forest Grove, Ore., as he faced 16 shots by the Boxers, six of them on goal, and turned back five of them.  It was his fifth game this season in which he has allowed one or no goals, and the eighth time he has made five or more saves, with a season high of 10 against both Whitman and Willamette, tying his all-time high.  For the year, he has 82 saves, which leads the Northwest Conference, and he posted his second career shutout in a 3-0 win at Simpson (Calif.) on Sept. 9.

Davis is the third soccer player to receive the BAA award this fall.  Junior goalie Jacob Baker captured the honor in the first week of the season (Aug. 29-Sept. 4), while leading scorer Luke Hammer, a freshman, won it twice on Sept. 5-11 and Oct. 10-16.

The George Fox Athlete of the Week Award for both men and women is presented throughout the Bruin sports seasons by the Bruin Athletic Association, whose mission is to provide George Fox student-athletes with an outstanding athletic and academic experience and to strengthen the overall competitiveness of the Bruin athletics program.  For more information about the organization or to become a member, visit the Bruin Athletic Association website.
