NEWBERG, Ore. – With their efforts in George Fox’s 1-0 win at Willamette that gave new coach Luis Del Rio his first college win, midfielder Myles Sorokovsky and goalkeeper Elliott Davis received honorable mention for the Northwest Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Student-Athletes of the Week respectively for Sept. 24-30.
Sorokovsky, a sophomore from Wilsonville, Ore., notched the game-winning goal at the 82:24 mark in the second half when Gabe Louthan played a ball through to him near the penalty box. He then beat a defender to the top of the box and scored on a shot from 15 yards out to the right corner of the net for his second goal of the season. He had three shots in the game against the Bearcats, and also got two scoring chances in the Bruins’ 2-0 loss at Linfield the day before.
Davis, a senior from Canby, Ore., made nine saves in almost 86 minutes of work in earning the win against Willamette, his only appearance of the week. Shortly after the go-ahead goal was scored late in the game, he had to leave briefly for a minor injury, but sat out only four minutes before returning to complete the win. He faced 17 shots in all.
