MTEN: ALL-NWC - Bruins Barnett Earns All-Conference Honors for 2nd Straight Year
2010 All-NWC Men's Tennis Team
NEWBERG, Ore. - Following an outstanding season in which he led the Bruins in victories and posted a winning record in singles, Scott Barnett of George Fox University has been named to the 2010 All-Northwest Conference Men’s Tennis Second Team, the second year in a row he has earned that honor.
Barnett, an academic junior but sophomore in eligibility, was 10-9 overall in singles for the Bruins this season, going 10-7 while playing at the No. 1 position and 0-2 at No. 2. He had a .588 percentage in all matches at No. 1 and a .615 percentage (8-5) at No. 1 in conference matches only, both numbers ranked fourth in the NWC.
In doubles, Barnett was 8-11 playing with four different partners, going 1-0 at No. 1 and 7-11 at No. 2. He went 2-0 teaming with Matthew Gardner, 3-7 with Nick Jenness, 3-3 with Pedro Munoz, and 0-1 with Garrett Thompson.
George Fox went 5-16 overall in its first spring season under new coach Neal Ninteman, which was four more wins than the year before, and Barnett’s play was a major factor in the Bruins’ improvement.
In 2009, Barnett posted a 6-9 record in singles and a 4-11 record in doubles, earning Second Team All-NWC accolades for the first time. A native of Jefferson, Ore., and graduate of Jefferson Christian High School, he is now 16-18 overall in singles in his career, and 12-22 in doubles.
Matt Solomon of league champion Whitman College was named the 2009 NWC Player of the Year, Joe Wales of Whitworth University was the Sportsman of the Year, and Carl Swanson of Linfield College was the Coach of the Year.
