GEORGE FOX 7, LEWIS & CLARK 2: Bruins Roll Over Pioneers to Remain 3rd in NWC
PORTLAND, Ore. – Retaining their hold on third place in the Northwest Conference and setting up a big match on Saturday with the Pacific University Boxers, the George Fox University Bruins swept through the last five singles to pin a 7-2 setback on the Lewis & Clark College Pioneers in men’s tennis action Friday here at the L&C Tennis Dome.
The Pioneers took the No. doubles as Olivier Groot and Quinn Roth-Carter squeaked past the Bruins’ Shawn Aldrich and Preston Mann 9-8 (8-6). The visitors bounced back to take the next two, however, as Peter Brown and Justin McClain claimed an 8-2 victory over Carter Gee-Taylor and Cole Pfeifer at No. 2, and Drew Milton and David Munoz blanked Scott Monismith and Michihiro Nakaguchi 8-0 at No. 3.
Groot’s win over Mann 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles meant a 2-2 tie, but the rest of the match was all George Fox. Aldrich defeated Gee-Taylor 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2; McClain rolled over Roth-Carter 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3; Milton manhandled Monismith 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4; Collin Hammagren picked up his first singles win over Pfeifer 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5; and Pax Magaway closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Lucas Fodor at No. 6.
