Bruins Drop Match to Pios

NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox men's tennis team continued its Northwest Conference schedule Sunday afternoon, as the Bruins dropped a match to the Pioneers of Lewis & Clark College, 8-1.

The Pioneers (9-1) were ready for today's action, as the Pios swept all three doubles. No. 1 doubles was a heavy weight bout with Bruins Spencer Watanabe and Alex Namba going head to head with Pioneers' Brenden Barrows and Gordon Barrows. The match was highly competitive and entertaining, but the Pios came away with an 8-6 victory.

Watanabe was stellar again for the Bruins at the No. 1 spot, earning his ninth straight victory at No. 1 singles. Watanabe took down Pioneers' Raed Attia with a 6-4, 6-2 straight set score. Matt Biggi had a close contest at No. 2 singles, but fell to Michael Brewer 7-6, 6-4.

What It Means:
The Bruins are now 6-5 on the season and 5-3 in the NWC.

What Comes Next:
The Bruins are back in action for the third straight day Monday, March 20, as the Bruins host Colorado College at 1p.m. on campus. If rain starts early the match will be moved to Vancouver, Washington, at 3p.m.
