Hawks Clip Bruins In Non-Conference Match

STANFORD, Calif. --- The George Fox men's tennis team continued its non-conference schedule Friday, as the Bruins fell to No. 45-ranked Holy Names 7-2 at the Taube Family Tennis Center.

The nationally ranked Hawks had their hands full in doubles. The toughest match came at the No. 1 spot as Spencer Watanabe and Alex Namba narrowly fell to No. 20-ranked Matthew Halligan and Bernardo Moraes, 8-6.

The Hawks managed to secure all three points in doubles, but the Bruins didn't back down losing 8-4 at the No. 2 spot and 8-5 at the No. 3 spot.

The competitive match continued into singles, as Watanabe grabbed the Bruins first point with a win at No. 1 singles. Watanabe took down Bernardo Moraes, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). Matt Biggi was solid for the Bruins at No. 3 singles with a tough win of 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.

The Hawks compete for NCAA Division II and belong to the PacWest Conference.

What It Means:
The Bruins fall to 7-5 on the season.

What Comes Next:
The Bruins will play an exhibition match against American River College Saturday, April 1.
