Bruins Secure Spot in NWC Tournament

PORTLAND, Ore. --- For the fourth time in five years, the George Fox men's tennis team clinched a spot in the Northwest Conference Tournament after beating Linfield College, 8-1.

The stage was set for a nightcap, as the Bruins traveled to Portland to host the 'Cats in a weekday NWC event. Both teams played into the night with the match finishing at 2a.m. The Bruins were quick to jump on top, taking down all three points in doubles.

The All-American duo of Spencer Watanabe and Alex Namba were the first to finish with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles over Tyler Linscott and Ben McNair. Davin Lee and Ryan Malinowski secured the Bruins' second point at No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 win over Nathan Saragoza and John Lutaaya. The Bruins swept doubles on the shoulders of Tristen Lerma and Matt Biggi, as the pair won 8-6 over Charlie Farrenkopf and Eric Rutherford.

The fight continued into singles as the Bruins almost completed the perfect sweep with five out of the six matches. Lee had a tough fight at No. 5 singles with a match that needed a tiebreaker. Lee narrowly fell, 6-3, 7-6 (11-9).

What It Means:
The win improves the Bruins to 9-7 on the season and 7-4 in the NWC. The Bruins have secured a spot into the NWC Tournament.

What Comes Next:
The Bruins will host No. 12 Whitman Saturday, April 15, with the match set for 1p.m.
