Bruins Gear Up For NWC Tournament

NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox men's tennis is back in the Northwest Conference Tournament for the fourth time in five years. After finishing the regular season with a 9-8 overall record and a 7-5 record against conference opponents, the Bruins will be the No. 4 seed.

The Bruins' opponent will be #1-seeded Whitman. Whitman enters postseason play ranked number four in the region and 15th nationally. 

All-Americans Spencer Watanabe and Alex Namba lead a Bruins squad that ranks 13th regionally. Ranked 17th in doubles, freshman Namba and junior Watanabe finished the regular season with a 9-7 record.

Announced Thursday, Watanabe was selected to the All-NWC First team, while Namba earned All-NWC second team honors.

Watanabe and fellow junior Tristan Lerma lead a band of young talent into the postseason tournament that begins Saturday. The Bruins match against the host Whitman is set to begin at 10 a.m. with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship match. The winner will take on either No. 2 seed Lewis and Clark or No. 3 seed Pacific.
