FRANK HASKINS INVITATIONAL: Three NCAA Javelin Marks Hit as Wildcats Top Bruins
NEWBERG, Ore. – Three Northwest Conference athletes
hit NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the javelin as Linfield
College prevailed over George Fox University in both the
men’s and women’s division of the Frank Haskins Track
& Field Invitational, a dual match between the two school,
Saturday here at GFU’s Colcord Memorial Field.
In the women’s section, the visiting Wildcats compiled 86.5
points to 73.5 for the Bruins. Linfield’s
men totaled 89.5 points in defeating George Fox 74.5.
Highlighting the day were the strong efforts by the javelin
hurlers. For the women, Kelly Marineau of
Linfield topped Beth Stam of George Fox with a throw of 134-8.5
(41.03m) to 129-11.5 (39.61m), with both marks besting the NCAA
Division III provisional standard for this season of 126-4
(38.50). The Bruins’ Joel Krebs, the 2007
national champion, easily won the men’s javelin with a throw
of 193-10.5 (59.09m), topping the provisional mark of 188-8
(57.50m).
Linfield’s Josh Lovell had the most individual wins in the
meet, running for the men’s 4x400 meter relay team(3:26.87)
and winning the high jump with a 6-4 (1.93m) and the long jump with
a 22-8.75 (6.93m).
Multiple winners for the George Fox women included Irene Johnson
in the 100 meter dash (13.17), the 100 meter hurdles (15.56), and
with the 4x100 meter relay team (50.45), and Melissa Leighty in the
200 meter dash (27.43) and with the 4x100 relay team.
For the Linfield women, Brittany Brostrom won the 400 meter dash
(1:02.69) and ran with the 4x400 meter relay team (4:13.00), Brooke
Bekkedahl won the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.83) and was on the 4x400
relay team, and Kaycee Hallstrom won the shot put with a distance
of 34-2.25(10.42m) and the discus with a 113-1.25 (34.47m).
For the Bruin men, Nate Dillow captured the 110 meter hurdles
(15.68) and the 400 meter hurdles (58.12), Casey Taylor won the 100
meter dash (11.60) and ran for the 4x100 meter relay team (44.55),
and Garrett Blizzard took the 400 meter dash (50.50) and was on the
4x100 relay team
Other multiple winners for the Linfield men were Mat Strum in the
200 meter dash (23.02) and with 4x400 meter relay team, and Shawn
Fisher in the 1500 meter run (4:10.34) and with the 4x400 relay
team.
The next event for both teams in the Linfield Icebreaker on
Saturday, March 7, starting at 9:00 a.m.
