LINFIELD ICEBREAKER: Bruins Post 11 Top-Three Finishes in Linfield Meet
McMINNVILLE, Ore. – In their first multi-team event
of the season, the George Fox University Bruins posted 11 top-three
track and field finishes, including five firsts, in the Linfield
College Erik Anderson Icebreaker on a cold and blustery Saturday
here at Maxwell Field.
In the women’s events, the Bruins’ Lisa Mensonides
took top honors in the 800 meter dash with a time of 2:18.32, the
best mark in the Northwest Conference thus far.
Cindy Walsh, who leads the NWC in the long jump (17-4.25), won the
same event in the Icebreaker, though her mark this time was two
inches shorter at 17-2.25 (5.25m). Marlee
Zakrevsky captured the hammer with a throw of 132-3 (40.31m)
Winners for the Bruin men were Sam McKenzie in the triple jump
with a distance of 41-10.50 (12.76m) and Ben Burgess in the hammer
with a throw of 159-9 (48.69m). McKenzie is
already the NWC leader in the triple jump at 44-5 (13.54m).
George Fox seconds went to Irene Johnson in the women’s 100
meter hurdles (15.28), improving her own NWC-leading time, and Abby
Reed in the women’s 5,000 meter run
(19:20.79). Bruin thirds were earned by Emily
Hodgin in the women’s triple jump (34-0.75 /10.38m), Connie
Evjen in the women’s pole vault(9-0.25 / 2.75m), Hana Fisher
in the women’s hammer (119-6 / 36.42m), and Nate Dillow in
the men’s 110 meter hurdles (16.15).
Dillow is the NWC leader in the 110 hurdles (15.68).
The next event for both Bruin teams is the Northwest Conference
Preview at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., on Saturday,
March 14, starting at 10:00 a.m.
