NWC PREVIEW: Bruins Take Five First-Place Finishes in Meet at Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore.
– Five George Fox University Bruins - three women and two men - finished first in their events in the Northwest Conference Preview track and field meet hosted by Pacific University on a wet and windy Saturday here at Lincoln Park.


The Bruin women took first place in 400 meter hurdles as Lisa Mensonides ran a 1:05.02, the long jump with a 16-11.5 (65.17m) by Cindy Walsh, and the hammer with a 130-8 (39.84nm) by Marlee Zakrevsky. 

Mensonides’ mark in the long jump was the best in the conference thus far and was only 1.02 seconds off an NCAA provisional qualifying time. 


Other high finishes for the George Fox women included seconds by Rachel Meis in the 100 meter dash (13.72), Mollie Honan in the 400 meter dash (1:01.58), Lizzie Alaimo with 4-9.75 1.47m) in the high jump, Beth Stam with a 16-8 (5.08m) in the long jump, and Hana Fisher with a 120-0 (36.57m).  Honan’s mark in the 400 and Stam’s in the long jump are both the third-best in the NWC to date.


The Bruins also hit several NWC qualifying marks, including Honan in the 400, Stam in the 100 hurdles, Mensonides in the 400 hurdles, Alaimo and Greta Erickson (4-7.75/1.42m) in the high jump, Connie Evjen (8-11.75/2.74m) and Reneca Bauer (8-6/2.59m) in the pole vault, Walsh, Stam, and Melissa Leighty (16-1/4.90m) in the long jump, and Zakrevsky and Fisher in the hammer.


Winners for the Bruin men were Brent Crocker in the 400 meter dash in 54.22 and Sam McKenzie in the high jump with a height of 6-0.5 (1.84m).  Ryan Lane took third in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 10:45.06.

Posting NWC qualifying results for the men were Ryan Forbes (16.45) and David Dillow (16.51) in the 110 meter hurdles, and McKenzie in the high jump.


With spring break starting next weekend, the Bruins will head for California for several events.  They will be entered in the Cal State-Northridge Multi-Events for heptathlon and decathlon on Thursday-Friday, and the Cal-Irvine Spring Break Invitational on Friday-Saturday.
